 Call for Papers

a) General Call for Papers with further Information

The General Call for Papers focuses on topics of international law including related fields such as international criminal law, international humanitarian law and international economic law.

A submission’s eligibility is not contingent upon its specific legal methodology, meaning that e.g. historical or economic approaches are welcome.

Submissions are classified as

  • a general article consisting of about 15.000 words
  • an article on current developments consisting of about 6,000 to 15,000 words
  • a report or commentary (e.g. on judgments or recent case-law).

In order to offer a wide range of differing points of views concerning controversial questions of international law, GoJIL’s regular issues usually contain several articles focusing on that particular topic.

The annual Special Issue is dedicated to specific contemporary topics of international law, which is an attempt to encourage an even deeper analytical academic discussion.

With respect to young academics, GoJIL rewards the winner of its annual Student Essay Competition with publishing the prevailing submission.

  b) Topic-related Call for Papers

We have just released the Call of Papers on the "Protection of the Environment in Relation to Armed Conflict". Please click here to view the announcement.

Review

Following the submission, first the articles undergo a short review by one of our managing editors before being subject to a double-blind-peer-review. These reviews are the basis for determining whether the article will be published. Subsequently, the Editorial Board may take the liberty to ask the author to revise and resubmit the article. It usually takes the Editorial Board around three to nine weeks, from first receiving the submission to approving or rejecting it.

Editing

GoJIL invites authors to observe the journal’s Editing Guidelines beforehand. The editing process as such comprises a language proofreading conducted by our native speakers trained in law and an ensuing intensive check with regards to content and the required form. Submitting authors will be updated regularly throughout the process to ensure that respective amendments are made consensually.

Publication

All in all, it takes GoJIL about three to six months from first receiving the submission to publishing the article.
